Dortmund’s summer bid for French-Algerian winger Rayan Cherki set to cost more
Borussia Dortmund’s pursuit of Rayan Cherki is set to become even more expensive, with Olympique Lyon reportedly increasing their asking price for the talented winger.
In January 2025, Dortmund made a strong push to sign the 21-year-old French-Algerian winger, viewing him as a long-term replacement for Donyell Malen. The club submitted a €22.5 million offer, believing it to be a fair valuation.
However, Lyon rejected the bid, citing poor timing as the main reason for turning it down. Now, according to L’Équipe, the French club is prepared to demand €30 million in the summer—significantly more than Dortmund’s initial proposal.
The reason behind the price hike is Cherki’s outstanding form, coupled with a contract extension that will automatically be triggered at the end of the summer. This combination puts Lyon in a stronger negotiating position, making it clear that any club hoping to secure the dynamic winger will need to dig deeper into their pockets.
