Dortmund track France-Cameroon defender Meupiyou in €7m Alverca swoop

Borussia Dortmund are being linked with a move for France-Cameroon centre-back Bastien Meupiyou, who currently plays for Portuguese side Alverca.

The 20-year-old Paris-born defender, who stands at 1.91m and is left-footed, is understood to be on Dortmund’s radar ahead of the summer window, with reports in Portugal rating the probability of a transfer at around 40%. Transfermarkt lists his market value at €7.00m, a figure which is expected to frame any negotiations.

Meupiyou, who holds both French and Cameroonian nationality, has emerged as one of Alverca’s most promising assets in Liga Portugal. Although his exact contract length has not been made public, there is no confirmed expiry date, fuelling suggestions Dortmund could attempt to leverage his situation, with the possibility of him running down his deal and eventually becoming a free agent if talks over a move stall.

Primarily a defender in the centre-back role, Meupiyou has been used on the left side of a back four for Alverca, where his height and preferred left foot have added balance to the back line. In his latest outing for Alverca in Liga Portugal – a tight encounter earlier this month in which Alverca were held to a draw by domestic opposition – Meupiyou completed the full 90 minutes, impressing with his aerial dominance and composure in one‑v‑one situations despite the match finishing level.

Born on 19 March 2006 and already valued at €7.00m, Meupiyou represents the profile of young, resale‑potential talent Dortmund have often targeted. A move to the Bundesliga would mark a significant step up from Alverca and, if it materialises, could prove a defining stage in shaping his senior career, reputation and long-term prospects at the highest level of European football.
