German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund are being reluctant in their pursuit of English midfielder of Nigerian descent Carney Chukwuemeka.
According to sources, the reluctance is due to the club’s concerns about the player’s injury history.
The youngster returned to Chelsea following the conclusion of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, where he spent a short stint with Dortmund.
Despite initial interest in extending his stay, the club’s sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, has confirmed that while BVB is still monitoring Chukwuemeka’s situation, a long-term deal may not be on the table just yet.
According to reports from WAZ, Chelsea is eager to offload the young midfielder permanently.
However, Dortmund is only open to negotiating a loan deal with an option to buy.
Chukwuemeka, who has also been linked to RB Leipzig per Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, is believed to be keen on remaining in Dortmund for at least another season.
He has reportedly expressed his interest directly to the club’s management. However, Chelsea appears unwilling to accept another temporary arrangement at this stage.
This is what is causing the delay in the player’s proposed move to Dortmund this summer.
