Dortmund push contract extension for Karim Adeyemi

Borussia Dortmund are still actively working to extend Karim Adeyemi’s contract, with managing director Lars Ricken and sporting director Ole Book confirming ongoing talks.

The 24-year-old winger has just one year left on his deal, and the club wants to avoid entering that final season without a new agreement in place.

“That is not the preferred solution,” Book said about the current situation. Discussions with Adeyemi and his representatives will continue through the summer break.

The club also expressed disappointment that Adeyemi was not selected for Germany’s World Cup squad. “We feel very sorry for Karim,” Book added. Dortmund believe he “could certainly have helped the team during the tournament.”

Injuries limited his consistency late in the season, but Adeyemi still delivered 10 goals and 6 assists across 39 games. A muscle fiber tear slowed him down toward the end.

Ricken emphasized that European clubs recognize Adeyemi’s quality. “Our players’ strengths are known to all clubs in Europe, including Karim Adeyemi’s,” he explained.

Negotiations remain open, though both sides have different views. “Every party has their own ideas,” Ricken said, noting that differing positions in contract talks are nothing unusual. With his stock high despite missing the World Cup, Dortmund are determined to keep their dynamic attacker.
