Dortmund secure signing of Joane Gadou

German Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund have confirmed the signing of highly-rated Franco-Ivorian defender Joane Gadou.

Gadou joins the German giants from Austrian side RB Salzburg in a major move aimed at strengthening their future defensive core.

The 19-year-old centre-back completed his mandatory medical on Tuesday before putting pen to paper on a long-term contract that will keep him at the Signal Iduna Park until June 2031.

Gadou arrives in Germany with a growing reputation as one of Europe’s most promising young defenders following a remarkable rise at Salzburg. The towering defender joined the Austrian outfit from Paris in 2024 and quickly established himself as a key figure in the team despite his young age.

During his time with Salzburg, Gadou made 58 appearances across all competitions, showcasing maturity, composure, and defensive intelligence well beyond his years. His consistency at the back and ability to play out from defence reportedly attracted interest from several top European clubs before Dortmund eventually secured his signature.

The French youngster also gained valuable international exposure after featuring in all three of Salzburg’s group-stage matches at last summer’s FIFA Club World Cup, where he impressed with assured performances against elite opposition.

Dortmund’s decision to hand Gadou a six-year contract underlines the club’s confidence in his long-term potential. The Bundesliga side has built a strong reputation for nurturing emerging talents into world-class stars, with players such as Jadon Sancho, Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham all flourishing during their time at the club.

Gadou is expected to provide added depth and competition in Dortmund’s defensive department as the club continues preparations for the new campaign. His blend of athleticism, ball-playing ability, and tactical awareness is believed to fit perfectly into Dortmund’s style of play.

The move also represents another significant step in the teenager’s rapidly developing career as he prepares to test himself in one of Europe’s most competitive leagues.

Dortmund supporters will now be eager to see whether the young French defender can continue his impressive development and establish himself as the next breakout star at the club.
