DJIBRIL CISSÉ BURIES THE HATCHET WITH LOULOU NICOLLIN
The tension between Djibril Cissé and Louis “Loulou” Nicollin, former president of Montpellier HSC, appears to be a thing of the past. The SC Bastia striker has revealed he no longer harbors any resentment toward Nicollin, despite a memorable comment made during the 2013 transfer window saga.
At the time, Nicollin had abruptly ended transfer talks with Cissé, declaring that the former French international was “a DJ, not a footballer.” The remark made headlines and sparked a minor media storm.
Speaking with BeIN Sports, Cissé looked back on the episode with good humor:
“He didn’t want a DJ, too bad. But I don’t blame him. I have a good relationship with him. He said that at the time, we both got angry. I’m outspoken, and so is he.”
Cissé also recalled seeing Nicollin afterward, noting with a smile:
“We saw each other last year, and he asked me for my jersey, as usual.”
During the same interview, Cissé was congratulated by Montpellier coach Rolland Courbis for his perseverance and determination to fight his way back into professional football after multiple injuries. He even took the opportunity to ask Courbis to pass on his greetings to Nicollin.
With humor, humility, and mutual respect, it seems both sides have turned the page on a colorful chapter in French football.
