UEFA has revealed its Team of the Season, highlighting the standout performers across Europe’s top competitions. FC Barcelona, champions of La Liga, dominate the lineup with four players selected, while Real Madrid surprisingly have no representatives in the squad.
In defense, Togolese international Djene Dakonam earns recognition for his pivotal role in Getafe’s Europa League qualification, joining Barcelona’s Gerard Piqué and Jordi Alba, along with Sevilla’s Jesús Navas. This defensive quartet blends experience, tactical discipline, and individual quality, providing a strong foundation for the team.
The midfield selection features a combination of creativity, control, and attacking support. Ivan Rakitic and Sergio Canales bring technical skill and vision, while Dani Parejo of Valencia and Pablo Sarabia of Sevilla offer balance and dynamism in the center of the park. Together, they form a unit capable of linking defense and attack while controlling the tempo of play.
The attacking duo comprises two of La Liga’s most prolific forwards: Lionel Messi, the league’s top scorer with 36 goals, and Iago Aspas, whose performances for Celta Vigo have been instrumental in their campaign. Both players provide exceptional goal-scoring threat, movement, and creativity, making the attack highly potent.
Between the posts, Jan Oblak of Atletico Madrid has been selected as goalkeeper, recognized for his consistency, shot-stopping ability, and leadership at the back.
The team is coached by Pep Bordalas of Getafe, whose tactical acumen and leadership have earned him this prestigious recognition. His influence is evident in Getafe’s strong defensive record and overachievement in La Liga, contributing to Dakonam’s standout performances.
This UEFA Team of the Season celebrates a combination of individual brilliance and team impact, highlighting players who have consistently delivered across the campaign.
