Togolese goalkeeper Djehani N’Guissan has made the move to Ivorian club SC Gagnoa after five years in Djibouti, where he played for AS Arta/Solar 7. Reflecting on the circumstances of his transfer, N’Guissan shared insights into his journey and the club’s ambitious project in a recent interview with 228foot.
N’Guissan, 34, left AS Arta/Solar 7 after contributing to the club’s near qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup group stages. B
efore signing with the Djibouti-based club, N’Guissan had detailed discussions with the club’s leadership, where they outlined their vision and goals for both the short and long term.
“I joined the project at AS Arta Solar 7 after speaking with the club’s president, who explained the ambitions and plans they had for the future.
I was fully on board with their vision, which is why I signed,” said N’Guissan.
However, after the 2022–2023 season, the club president had more discussions with the Togolese goalkeeper about the future.
It was during these talks that the possibility of a transfer to SC Gagnoa in Ivory Coast emerged.
The president, having acquired SC Gagnoa, wanted N’Guissan to continue being part of the broader project by moving to the Ivorian second division club.
“When the president expressed that he still believed in me and wanted me to move to SC Gagnoa, I didn’t hesitate.
It was a sign of great trust, and it means a lot to me,” N’Guissan said, highlighting the loyalty and confidence shown by the club’s leadership.
For N’Guissan, it wasn’t just the move to a new country and league that appealed to him but also the continuity of a larger vision.
He sees his transfer to SC Gagnoa as a critical part of replicating the success and growth that AS Arta/Solar 7 achieved in Djibouti.
“I have seen how the president has pushed the AS Arta Solar 7 project forward. With SC Gagnoa, his intention is to bring the same energy and progress to Ivory Coast.
The president’s commitment reassures me that this is a project worth being a part of,” N’Guissan added.
As for his goals with SC Gagnoa, N’Guissan is clear about his ambitions.
He aims to help the club achieve promotion to the top tier of Ivorian football, Ligue 1, and continue growing with the team.
“My main objective is to help SC Gagnoa rise quickly to Ligue 1. After that, the rest of the project will follow.
It’s all about the collective, and we have to fight for the club’s ambitions. Personally, I want to continue improving, train hard, and deliver solid performances every weekend.”
N’Guissan, who has spent the majority of his career playing across Africa, remains focused on bringing his wealth of experience to SC Gagnoa and contributing to the club’s success.
At 34, he is determined to play a key role in the team’s future while maintaining his own standards of performance.
