Djamel Mesbah, the Algerian international defender from FC Parma, has been loaned to AS Livorno until the end of the season, according to reports from local media. The agreement between the two clubs was reached on Wednesday.
Mesbah, aged 29, made the decision to seek a change of scenery in order to increase his playing time. He has been sparingly used by his Italian coach, Roberto Donadoni, since the start of the current season.
Speaking about the move, Mesbah cited both financial considerations and a desire for more playing time as factors in his decision. He expressed his happiness at joining Livorno, as they were the only club willing to accept the condition of a dry loan, meaning he would return to Parma at the end of the loan period.
Mesbah emphasized his goal of getting back into regular competition and playing consistently, particularly with an eye towards the upcoming 2014 World Cup in Brazil. He highlighted his long absence from regular play and the importance of being prepared for the tournament as key reasons for the move.
