Former Algeria coach Djamel Belmadi seems to be on the brink of securing a new managerial position, according to reports emerging from Qatar.
The Algerian tactician, hailing from Champigny-sur-Marne, is said to be in discussions with Al-Duhail club, with indications suggesting that he could replace the current French coach, Christophe Galtier, who is reportedly facing scrutiny due to the team’s underwhelming performances.
Belmadi’s potential return to Al-Duhail wouldn’t be his first stint with the Qatari side. He previously managed the club twice, first between 2010 and 2012, and then again from 2015 to 2018.
Djamel Belmadi, widely hailed for his coaching prowess, notably steered Algeria to glory during the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2019, marking a historic triumph for the nation.
However, following the team’s early exit from the subsequent edition of the tournament, he was relieved of his duties.
During his tenure as Algeria’s head coach, Belmadi accumulated an impressive record. Over 64 matches, he secured 42 victories, with 16 draws and 6 defeats.
Despite recent setbacks in major competitions such as the 2021 African Cup of Nations, the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, and the 2023 edition of the AFCON, Belmadi’s track record remains commendable.
At 48 years old, Belmadi is poised to embark on a new chapter in his coaching career, aiming to reaffirm his status as one of the leading coaches on the African continent.
As speculation swirls around his potential appointment at Al-Duhail, football enthusiasts await official confirmation and anticipate Belmadi’s next move with keen interest.
