Djamel Belmadi has addressed Algerian football fans in an open letter following his departure as head coach of the national team.

The 47-year-old tactician, who led Algeria to victory in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, expressed his thoughts on the circumstances surrounding his exit and reflected on his tenure.

In the letter, Belmadi acknowledged the abrupt end to his mission, attributing it to a hasty and unilateral decision by the Algerian Football Federation.

He emphasized that his silence since the termination was intentional, aiming to allow time for reflection and to avoid interfering with the new directions chosen by the federation.

Belmadi stated that he wished to ensure the smooth integration of the new staff and players, particularly those he had convinced to join the national team.

Throughout his tenure, Belmadi maintained that the supreme interest of the national team and the nation should always prevail.

He highlighted his unwavering commitment and professional conscience, dedicating himself to restoring the image of the national team and achieving progress.

Belmadi noted that the pinnacle of this journey was the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations victory, which brought joy and pride to the Algerian people.

Reflecting on the challenges faced during his time as coach, Belmadi acknowledged the difficulties encountered, including internal struggles and opposition.

He alluded to the adage “My God, keep me from my friends, as for my enemies, I will take care of them,” suggesting that he had experienced unexpected challenges from within. Belmadi hinted at the possibility of revealing more details in the future.

Belmadi expressed his desire to lead Algeria to the next World Cup, a goal that remained close to his heart.

He mentioned that the team had made an ideal start to the qualification campaign, securing six points out of six.

Despite the setback of not qualifying for the 2022 World Cup, Belmadi chose to continue his mission, believing in the potential for redemption and hope for the nation.

Addressing the manner of his departure, Belmadi questioned the actions of those who decided to terminate his contract unilaterally and without prior discussion.

He expressed his belief that such actions lacked consideration for basic decency and legal obligations.

Belmadi emphasized that the dispute was between him and his employer, the Algerian Football Federation, and not a reflection of his commitment to the national team.

Despite the circumstances, Belmadi reiterated his desire for a fair and reasonable resolution

He invited decision-makers with sincerity, wisdom, and good faith to come together to reach an amicable and respectful agreement, without the need for external intervention.

Concluding his letter, Belmadi expressed his enduring love for the national team and the honor he felt in serving his country.

He acknowledged the shared moments of euphoria and disappointment with the fans and reaffirmed his unwavering support for the team in future endeavors.

Belmadi’s letter serves as a testament to his dedication and passion for Algerian football.
