Djamel Belmadi has insisted on receiving significant financial compensation for the termination of his contract with the Algerian Football Federation following its decision to part ways with him as the coach of the “Les Verts” national team.
Upon his arrival in Algeria, Belmadi reconvened with Walid Sadi, the president of the Algerian Football Federation, on Thursday.
During the meeting, Belmadi made it clear that a compensation equivalent to two months’ salary would not be satisfactory for him.
It’s worth noting that the coach has been receiving a monthly salary of €208,000 since 2019, making it the highest salary among coaches of African national teams.
Sources indicate that Sadi had initially agreed with Belmadi in Ivory Coast on a compensation equivalent to two months’ salary, totaling €416,000.
However, the situation changed after returning to Algeria. Belmadi reminded Sadi that his contract lacked clauses related to objectives and conditions.
Consequently, elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) does not automatically entail contract termination without financial compensation.
