Divock Origi still without a club as free‑agent status drags on

Former Liverpool striker Divock Origi remains unattached more than a month into the January transfer window, underscoring a challenging chapter in the 30‑year‑old’s career after his contract with AC Milan was terminated by mutual consent on 22 December 2025.

The Belgium international of Kenyan heritage has not featured in competitive football since early 2024, leaving him without a club well into the new year and prompting questions about the next step for a player once celebrated for his decisive goals at Anfield.

Origi’s spell in Italy proved difficult. After joining Milan on a free transfer in the summer of 2022 following an illustrious spell at Liverpool, he struggled to make an impact at the San Siro, scoring infrequently and eventually falling out of the first‑team picture.

A loan to Nottingham Forest in the 2023‑24 season yielded limited returns, and his absence from Milan’s plans saw him relegated to training with the reserve squad before the contract termination was finalised late last year.

Despite his free‑agent status, there has been little concrete movement on the transfer front. With the winter window open, Origi is technically eligible to sign outside the usual constraints, but suitors have been slow to emerge.

Industry observers note that while his experience across top European leagues could attract interest, lingering concerns about his recent form and fitness have tempered speculation.

Off the pitch, Origi has maintained a public presence, recently attending high‑profile events including a basketball game in the United States and fashion shows in Paris, underscoring a period in which professional uncertainty has intersected with broader cultural engagements.
