Ditlhokwe leaves Al Ittihad to join Jordanian side Al-Wehdat

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe has completed a move to Al-Wehdat SC in the Jordan Pro League after leaving Libyan club Al Ittihad.

The Botswana national team captain has signed a one-year contract with Al-Wehdat, who finished third in Jordan’s top flight last season. The transfer represents the latest move in Ditlhokwe’s career after a spell in Libya that began with one of the most expensive departures in Kaizer Chiefs’ history.

Ditlhokwe left Kaizer Chiefs in February 2025 to join Libyan giants Al Ittihad. According to Transfermarkt, the deal was worth €810,000, estimated at approximately R15.1 million.

The centre-back spent a year with Al Ittihad before being loaned to fellow Libyan side Al-Shomooa SC. He remained there for four months before returning to the transfer market and completing his move to Al-Wehdat.

Transfermarkt lists the switch as a free transfer. Despite joining without a fee, Ditlhokwe is already regarded as one of the leading players in the Jordan Pro League in terms of market value.

His valuation of €450,000, or about R8.4 million, makes him the third-most valuable player in the division.

Al-Wehdat are one of Jordan’s most successful clubs and have won the Jordan Pro League 17 times. They finished third in the competition last season, and Ditlhokwe will now begin the next stage of his career with the Amman-based club.

The move also gives the Botswana defender an opportunity to continue playing outside his home country after his departure from South African football and subsequent spell in Libya.

Ditlhokwe became a notable transfer figure for Kaizer Chiefs because of the size of the fee received for his departure. His switch to Al Ittihad in February 2025 was worth €810,000, according to Transfermarkt, making it one of the club’s biggest sales.

After his loan period with Al-Shomooa SC, the 26-year-old has now officially ended his association with Al Ittihad. He will wear the colours of Al-Wehdat on a permanent basis under the terms of his new one-year agreement.

Al-Wehdat’s status as the second-most successful club in the Jordan Pro League adds significance to the move, with only one club having won more league titles than their 17.

Ditlhokwe’s arrival follows an unsettled period that saw him move between two Libyan clubs within a year. His immediate focus will now be on establishing himself in Jordan and helping Al-Wehdat build on last season’s third-place finish.
