Dion Lopy poised for potential move to Stade Brestois
Dion Lopy, currently one of Almería’s standout players, could be on the verge of departing the Spanish club, with Stade Brestois emerging as his most likely destination. Although Italian side Parma and several German teams had previously shown interest, it now appears that the Senegalese midfielder might be returning to France.
Stade Brestois is actively looking to strengthen its squad before the transfer window closes, especially in light of injuries that have left the club short-staffed in midfield.
Pierre Lees-Melou’s absence has increased the urgency for Brest to secure reinforcements, and Lopy has emerged as a prime candidate.
The club is reportedly exploring the possibility of a loan deal with an option to buy, though they will have to negotiate with Almería, who have set a firm asking price of €10 million for the 22-year-old, who is contracted until 2029.
The potential departure of Lopy coincides with other possible exits from Almería, including Serbian forward Marko Milovanović, as the Spanish side continues to evaluate offers for their key players.
Despite strong interest from Parma and other European clubs, Brest appears to have taken the lead in the race for Lopy’s signature, with talks reportedly advancing in recent days.
Sources suggest that Lopy is open to a move back to Ligue 1, where he previously played for Stade de Reims.
The prospect of joining a team competing in one of Europe’s top leagues, along with the possibility of European football, is said to appeal to the Senegalese international.
However, while Brest’s interest is strong, the club must still navigate the demands of Almería, who are reluctant to let go of one of their valuable assets without securing a substantial financial return.
The situation is further complicated by Lopy’s own stance on his future. While he is tempted by the idea of a new challenge in France, he is also considering staying at Almería to play at least the first half of the season in Spain’s Second Division.
This indecision could potentially delay negotiations, though the French side remains hopeful that their offer will meet the midfielder’s ambitions.
As the transfer window nears its conclusion, Brest is expected to push hard to finalize the deal.
The club is banking on Lopy’s desire to return to Ligue 1 and to take advantage of the opportunity for more playing time, especially in a season that promises both domestic and European challenges.
Whether Almería will accept Brest’s terms, or if Lopy will ultimately decide to stay in Spain, remains to be seen, making this a situation to watch in the final hours of the market.
