Diomande produces five-second Real Madrid training highlight as Cucurella is beaten

Yan Diomande gave Real Madrid supporters an early glimpse of his attacking flair by outmanoeuvring team-mate Marc Cucurella and scoring within five seconds during Tuesday’s training session.

The Ivory Coast international, one of Real Madrid’s new arrivals, was involved in the moment as the Spanish club continued its preparations for the start of the new season. A video published by Spanish newspaper AS on its official X account showed Diomande turning away from Cucurella before finding the net in an impressive piece of individual play.

The clip quickly drew attention because of the speed of the move, with Diomande needing only five seconds to beat the Spain international and finish the attack.

Diomande joined Real Madrid from RB Leipzig during the current transfer window in a deal worth 125m euros. The fee makes him the most expensive signing in the history of the Spanish club.

Cucurella also moved to the Santiago Bernabeu during this transfer window, completing his switch from Chelsea after winning the 2026 World Cup with Spain.

Despite their involvement in training, neither player is expected to feature when Real Madrid face Deportivo La Coruna in a friendly on Wednesday. Both remain short of full physical readiness as they continue to build towards the opening competitive fixtures of the campaign.

The training-ground exchange offered a brief showcase of Diomande’s qualities, but the club’s immediate priority remains ensuring its new signings reach the required level of fitness before the season begins.

Real Madrid will open their La Liga campaign on Saturday, 22 August, when they face Espanyol in the first round. Diomande and Cucurella will therefore have limited time to complete their preparations before the club’s opening league fixture.

The two players’ competitive debuts for Real Madrid will depend on their progress over the coming days, following their absence from the friendly against Deportivo La Coruna. For now, it was Diomande who claimed the spotlight, with his brief training-ground finish providing the most eye-catching moment from the session.
