Although Dieumerci Mbokani has been strongly linked with a move to Anderlecht, it now appears unlikely that the Congolese striker will join the Belgian capital club this summer.
Mbokani enjoyed an impressive season with Antwerp, scoring 12 goals and providing 9 assists, which significantly boosted his profile and made him a fan favorite among Anderlecht supporters. Despite the speculation and interest, the proposed transfer has not progressed, as confirmed by Anderlecht sporting director Michael Verschueren in an interview with La Dernière Heure.
“It’s correct: we are no longer in contact with Mbokani,” Verschueren said. “It’s true that we met with his agent some time ago, but he often comes here to Neerpede. We haven’t sat down with God to finalize the transfer.”
The comments indicate that although Mbokani had previously met with Anderlecht officials, discussions never moved toward a concrete agreement. After terminating his contract with Antwerp following a successful season, the striker had been widely expected to return to Anderlecht, but negotiations appear to have stalled.
While the deal may be at a temporary impasse, the approaching transfer window leaves the door open for potential developments. Mbokani’s performance and experience make him a valuable asset, and clubs across Belgium and beyond may continue to monitor his situation closely.
As of now, however, it seems that the much-discussed move to Anderlecht will not materialize immediately, leaving fans to speculate on the striker’s next destination for the upcoming season.
