Ghana international Thomas Partey has praised Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone for his pivotal role in unlocking his full potential.
The 31-year-old midfielder spent five seasons under the Argentine coach after breaking into Atletico’s first team in July 2015. During his time with Simeone, Partey made 188 appearances in all competitions, scoring 16 goals and providing 12 assists.
In an interview with Ghanaian journalist Kafui Dey, Partey described the experience of playing under Simeone: “He’s a coach who brings out the best in you mentally because he knows your strengths and pushes you to give your all.”
Partey added, “Once you understand his style and expectations, you realize he only wants to win. You don’t need to do anything extra — just work hard. He even expects his strikers to track back and defend.”
“He demands your best effort, and in return, he gives everything to his players.”
Partey left Atletico Madrid in 2020 to join Arsenal on a five-year contract.
