No Marseille Return for Drogba – But Not Ruling Out Future Role
Didier Drogba has poured cold water on hopes of a return to Olympique de Marseille as a player, but hinted that a future role at the club could still be on the cards.
The 36-year-old, who rejoined Chelsea this summer, was quick to dismiss the idea of a playing comeback in the south of France. Speaking on Canal+, Drogba joked: “How do you expect this to happen? Do you want me to play with a stick in Marseille?”
However, the Ivorian striker, who remains a fan favourite at the Vélodrome, left the door open for a different kind of reunion. “Football doesn’t stop on the pitch. In five years, in ten years… I don’t know what tomorrow will bring,” he said.
Drogba spent just one season at Marseille in 2003–04, but his impact was such that supporters continue to dream of a return in any capacity.
