Ivory Coast Elephants’ captain, Didier Drogba, has added another accolade to his illustrious career by receiving the “Golden Talent” award for his outstanding performances during the past season. The former Chelsea star, who won the UEFA Champions League and the Cup with Chelsea Blues and was a finalist in the CAN 2012, was honored during a ceremony in the Ivorian capital on September 5.
Presented by French journalist Philippe Doucet, host of the show “Talents d’Afrique” on Canal Plus, the “Golden Talent” prize is established to recognize the achievements of the best athletes of African origin. Drogba, who now plays in China, expressed his gratitude to the “Talents of Africa” team during the ceremony. The award comes as Drogba is in Abidjan for the first leg of the last round of the African Cup of Nations qualifiers for South Africa 2013, where Ivory Coast faces Senegal at the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium this Saturday.
In his remarks, Drogba wished good luck to the “Talents of Africa” program, which specifically follows African players competing in Europe. The Ivorian international succeeds Senegalese striker Papiss Cissé as the winner of the “Golden Talent” award.
