Didier Drogba Honored in England, Dreams of Staying with Chelsea
While the Ivory Coast continues its quest for a place in the quarter-finals of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, its most iconic footballer, Didier Drogba, was celebrated off the pitch with one of England’s most prestigious accolades: the Football Writers’ Association Tribute Award.
At 36, the legendary striker received the honor in London for his outstanding contribution to English football, particularly during his time at Chelsea FC.
“I Love This Club”
Clearly emotional, Drogba used the moment to express his desire to remain at Stamford Bridge:
“When you’ve achieved so much and won so many trophies like we have over the last ten years, it creates something special. I hope, and the club has made me believe, to be part of this big family.”
Though his playing contract expires at the end of the season, Drogba hinted at a future role at Chelsea, possibly off the pitch or within the club’s development structure.
