France manager Didier Dechamps is backing midfielder Paul Pogba to return to the highest level of his football career after ban.
Pogba, a member of the France squad that won the 2018 World Cup in Russia is set to resume his football career after completing his doping ban suspension this week.
The former Manchester United star was reduced from four years to just 18-months after appeal. Meanwhile, Pogba will have to find himself a new club after terminating contract with Juventus after the reduction of his ban.
Unveiling his squad for France’s double-header against Croatia, Deschamps emphasized Pogba can make a comeback to the very highest level, potentially leaving the door open to a France return.
“He is supposed to be able to play again,” said Deschamps at the French Football Federation headquarters on Thursday afternoon. “We’re having exchanges and I won’t tell you the details of that,” a tight-lipped Deschamps teasingly revealed.
“He has the ability and the mentality to return to the highest level. It won’t happen at the snap of a finger, but for the moment he hasn’t made a decision on his future club. We’ll see,”
Meanwhile, Marseille have expressed keen interest in the enterprising midfielder as they seeks to sign him on free transfer.
