Dickson Abiama: Nigeria-Germany winger joins Rot-Weiss Essen from Kaiserslautern in €50k deal

Nigeria-Germany winger Dickson Abiama has joined Rot-Weiss Essen from 2. Bundesliga side Kaiserslautern in a permanent transfer worth €50,000. The 27-year-old right-sided attacker has signed a contract with the 3. Liga club until 30 June 2028.

Abiama returns to Essen after spending the second half of last season on loan at the club, a spell which was followed by a brief return to Kaiserslautern at the end of the campaign. Rot-Weiss have now moved to secure him on a long-term basis ahead of the new season, ending his time at the Fritz-Walter-Stadion.

Born in Lagos and standing at 1.84m, Abiama brings significant experience across Germany’s professional tiers, having featured in the Bundesliga, 2. Bundesliga and 3. Liga. Used primarily as a right winger and operating off his stronger right foot, he offers versatility across the attacking line.

Abiama first broke into the professional scene with Greuther Furth, earning a move there in 2020 after prolific spells in the regional leagues with Mogeldorf, Quelle Furth and Eltersdorf. He later switched to Kaiserslautern in January 2024 and has since accumulated more than 150 senior league appearances across Germany’s top three divisions, scoring regularly in the 2. Bundesliga and 3. Liga and adding further goals in the DFB-Pokal.

With a current market value of €400,000, Abiama becomes one of Rot-Weiss Essen’s more high-profile assets as they prepare for the upcoming 3. Liga campaign. His move from Kaiserslautern to Essen, completed on 21 July 2026, is now confirmed as a permanent transfer.
