Alou Diarra in Talks with Sochaux as He Seeks Career Revival
Former France international Alou Diarra is in discussions with Ligue 2 side FC Sochaux-Montbéliard as he looks to reignite his playing career following a period of uncertainty.
The 33-year-old defensive midfielder, currently a free agent after leaving English Premier League side West Ham United, has been seeking a new club to relaunch his career. Diarra recently underwent a trial with AS Nancy-Lorraine but has yet to secure a deal.
According to French outlet L’Est Républicain, the veteran midfielder is now in talks with Sochaux, who sit 14th in the Ligue 2 standings. While no agreement has been finalized, negotiations are reportedly ongoing, and a deal could be imminent.
Diarra, who captained the French national team during his international career, has been linked with several clubs in recent months, including former side Bordeaux, Belgian outfit Anderlecht, and Nancy. However, none of those discussions have resulted in a contract.
Should he sign with Sochaux, the move could offer Diarra a valuable opportunity to regain match fitness and re-establish himself on the professional stage. His experience, leadership, and physical presence could prove an asset to the club as they look to climb the Ligue 2 table.
Diarra’s last competitive appearance came during his time at West Ham, where he struggled to cement a regular place in the first team. Injuries and limited game time curtailed his impact in England, prompting his release and subsequent search for a new challenge.
At this stage of his career, a stint in Ligue 2 could serve as a stepping stone back into top-flight football — if Diarra is motivated to embrace the challenge.
