Diadié Samassekou, the talented Red Bull Salzburg midfielder, remains on Olympique de Marseille’s radar despite not making the move last summer. The 23-year-old Malian international has not closed the door on a potential switch to Ligue 1, leaving the possibility open for the French club to pursue him in the coming transfer window.
Speaking about the speculation, Samassekou was cautious but acknowledged the appeal of playing for a club like OM. “Interested in OM? I don’t like to talk about transfers because there are always interpretations afterwards. I’m open to many challenges. OM is a big club, so when teams like this want you, you think about it, but that’s the case for other teams too,” he explained.
Currently under contract with Salzburg until June 2021, Samassekou has been a key figure in the Austrian side’s midfield, showcasing his defensive abilities, passing range, and tactical intelligence. His performances have earned him recognition beyond Austria, attracting interest from clubs in top European leagues.
Whether Marseille will renew their efforts to sign the Malian international remains to be seen. With his contract still running, Salzburg would likely seek a substantial transfer fee, but Samassekou’s openness to new challenges suggests that a move to Ligue 1 could still be on the cards in the coming weeks.
As OM continues to strengthen its squad, Samassekou represents a high-quality midfield option capable of adding stability and experience at a relatively young age, making him a potential priority for Marseille if negotiations are pursued.
