Diadié Samassékou continues to attract interest from Olympique de Marseille, more than a year after first catching the attention of the club’s decision-makers during a memorable Europa League campaign. According to France Football, the Malian international remains firmly on OM’s radar as the club prepares to open a new chapter ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

Last season’s Europa League run provided Marseille with a close-up look at Samassékou’s qualities, as OM and RB Salzburg were drawn together in a series of intense encounters, meeting no fewer than four times during the competition. Throughout those clashes, the Salzburg midfielder stood out for his tactical intelligence, physical presence, and consistency, leaving a strong impression on Marseille’s sporting management, particularly on then sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta.

As Olympique de Marseille looks to launch what club officials have described as a “new cycle,” the recruitment of dynamic and reliable players has become a priority. Reinforcing the midfield is seen as a key objective, and Samassékou’s profile appears to fit perfectly with OM’s ambitions. His ability to recover balls, dictate tempo, and provide balance between defense and attack makes him an attractive option for a team seeking greater stability and intensity in the middle of the pitch.

Contacts between Marseille and the player were already serious last summer, suggesting that OM’s interest is not recent or superficial. While no deal materialized at the time, the discussions demonstrated the club’s genuine desire to bring the Malian midfielder to the Stade Vélodrome. According to France Football, Marseille’s scouts have recently renewed contact with Samassékou, indicating that the club could be ready to revive the file in earnest as the transfer window approaches.

Currently under contract with RB Salzburg until 2021, Samassékou remains a key figure in the Austrian club’s system. Since arriving in Europe from AS Real Bamako, he has enjoyed a steady rise, developing into one of Salzburg’s most reliable performers both domestically and on the European stage. His maturity and leadership qualities were already evident early in his career, notably when he helped Mali secure third place at the FIFA U-20 World Cup, a tournament that first brought him to the attention of many European scouts.

However, Salzburg is not expected to part easily with one of its prized assets. The Austrian club reportedly values Samassékou at around €20 million, a significant sum that could represent a major investment for Marseille. Despite this, OM’s management may view the price as justified given the player’s age, experience at the highest level, and potential resale value.

As Marseille reshapes its squad in search of renewed competitiveness in both domestic and European competitions, the Samassékou option remains very much alive. Whether OM will be willing—and able—to meet Salzburg’s financial demands remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Diadié Samassékou has not been forgotten in Marseille, and his name could once again feature prominently in the club’s summer transfer plans.
