Deuff leads Nantes comeback after early setback

Bahmed Deuff scored an impressive hat-trick as Nantes recovered from an early deficit to beat Al-Wakrah 5-1 in a pre-season friendly, delivering an eye-catching performance that helped his side produce an emphatic victory.

Although the result came in a friendly match, Nantes produced an encouraging display after falling behind early on.

Al-Wakrah took the lead in the ninth minute through Redouane Berkane, but the French club responded strongly before half-time and dominated the remainder of the contest.

Deuff proved to be the difference between the two teams, finding the net three times as Nantes overturned the early setback with a confident attacking performance.

Three goals underline Deuff’s sharp form

After Nantes spent much of the first half searching for a breakthrough, Deuff restored parity in the 42nd minute.

The forward met an inviting delivery with a well-directed header after excellent work from Tylel Tati, ensuring the teams went into the interval level after Al-Wakrah’s promising start.

Nantes needed only seconds after the restart to complete the turnaround.

Just 15 seconds into the second half, Deuff struck again to put his side ahead.

The goal came after good work from Ignatius Ganago, whose contribution created the opportunity for the striker to score his second of the afternoon.

With Nantes firmly in control, Deuff completed his hat-trick in the 70th minute.

His third goal arrived from a corner, capping an outstanding individual display and putting the match beyond Al-Wakrah’s reach.

The three goals highlighted the striker’s sharpness in front of goal and provided another positive sign during Nantes’ preparations.

Nantes add late goals to seal convincing victory

Nantes continued to press after Deuff’s third goal and were rewarded with two more late strikes.

Corredor extended the advantage in the 73rd minute as the French side maintained control of the contest and continued to create chances.

Al-Wakrah’s difficult afternoon became even worse in the closing moments when El-Khatib turned the ball into his own net in the 90th minute, completing a comprehensive 5-1 scoreline.

While Al-Wakrah had enjoyed the perfect start through Berkane’s early opener, they were unable to prevent Nantes from taking complete control once the home side found their rhythm.

The result offered encouragement for Nantes ahead of the new campaign, with Deuff’s clinical finishing standing out as the major talking point from the friendly encounter.

His first goal arrived with a header shortly before the break after Tylel Tati’s excellent play, his second came immediately after the restart following good work from Ignatius Ganago, and his third was scored from a corner to complete a memorable hat-trick.

The performance prompted one final observation after the match:

“Hopefully Vahid Halilhodzic saw this match …”
