Details of Mohamed Salah’s agreed move to Al-Ittihad

Egypt captain Mohamed Salah has reportedly agreed to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad after talks over a move to Turkish club Besiktas broke down.

The former Liverpool forward, who left Anfield at the end of last season following a trophy-laden nine-year spell, had been linked with a number of clubs across Europe and the Middle East in recent months.

According to Turkish newspaper Sabah, Al-Ittihad accelerated their pursuit of the 33-year-old on Thursday after negotiations between Salah and Besiktas reached an impasse.

Besiktas talks hit stumbling block

Salah had been in advanced discussions with the Turkish outfit, but the deal reportedly collapsed following disagreements over several contractual issues, including matters involving his agent, Ramy Abbas.

The breakdown in negotiations opened the door for Al-Ittihad, who quickly moved to secure the signature of one of Africa’s most decorated footballers.

Reports suggest the Saudi club offered the Egyptian forward an annual salary of $25m (£18.8m), a figure believed to be higher than Besiktas’ proposal.

Saudi move edges closer

Sabah claims Salah has accepted Al-Ittihad’s offer, with the two parties now expected to complete the formalities of the deal in the coming days.

The forward had also been linked with several other Saudi clubs, including Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr, Al-Ahli, Al-Qadsiah and Al-Diriyah following his departure from Liverpool.

If completed, the move would mark another high-profile arrival in the Saudi Pro League as clubs continue to strengthen their squads with some of the world’s biggest names.

A glittering career for Egypt’s star

Salah leaves Liverpool as one of the club’s greatest players after scoring goals and winning major honours during his nine seasons on Merseyside.

The Egyptian international won two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup with the Reds, while also collecting numerous individual awards.

The 33-year-old remains one of Africa’s most successful footballers and would become one of the Saudi league’s biggest attractions should the transfer be finalised.
