Desire Doue says Paris Saint-Germain must improve despite Manchester City win

Desire Doue says Paris Saint-Germain still need to raise their level despite beating Manchester City 4-2 in the Champions League.

Paris Saint-Germain secured a second successive victory by the same scoreline against Manchester City in the league phase of the competition, this time at the Etihad Stadium.

“We believe in our quality and knew the match would be difficult, but we controlled it,” the French player told beIN SPORTS.

“The second half was more challenging, but we managed to control the course of the game,” he added.

Doue also highlighted his understanding with Ousmane Dembele, saying: “There is a great understanding between Dembele and me. Luis Enrique knows our abilities very well.”

However, he said the performance could still be improved.

“We have to improve our performance because there are some technical aspects that we are lacking,” Doue said.

The result repeated Paris Saint-Germain’s 4-2 victory over Manchester City in last season’s league phase. That match was played in the seventh round at the Parc des Princes, Paris Saint-Germain’s home ground.

Haaland breaks Champions League record

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland became the fastest player to score 60 goals in the Champions League during the match.

He overtook Lionel Messi’s previous mark after reaching the same total in fewer than 80 appearances, with Messi having required 80 matches to score 60 Champions League goals.

Paris Saint-Germain’s latest victory also moved them to within one win of matching Manchester City’s historical record against them.

Manchester City have won four of the clubs’ meetings, compared with three victories for Paris Saint-Germain.

The win took Paris Saint-Germain to the top of the table ahead of Barcelona, with six points and a one-goal advantage over the Spanish side.

Manchester City, meanwhile, remain on three points and sit 17th in the standings.
