Derrick Julu: Liberian goalkeeper joins Niger Tornadoes from Ikorodu City

Liberian goalkeeper Derrick Julu has joined Nigerian top-flight side Niger Tornadoes from Ikorodu City as the club bolster their options between the posts ahead of the new campaign.

The 24-year-old moves within the Nigeria Premier Football League after a spell with Ikorodu City, where he established himself in the senior game. He has signed a contract with Niger Tornadoes running until 30 June 2028, committing his long-term future to the Minna-based club.

Julu, born on 13 May 2002, arrives with a listed market value of €10,000 and will compete for the starting role in goal as Niger Tornadoes reshape their squad. His switch was completed on 27 July 2026, with registration finalised in time for the forthcoming NPFL season.

The transfer also maintains Niger Tornadoes’ policy of recruiting from within the West African region, adding an international player in a key position. Julu’s move represents a step up from Ikorodu City into a club with established NPFL experience and expectations.

By tying Julu down to a deal through to 2028, Niger Tornadoes have secured a Liberian goalkeeper for the medium term as they prepare for the next phase of their league campaign.
