Dereje Alemu: Ethiopia goalkeeper linked with Shagger City move

Ethiopia goalkeeper Dereje Alemu, currently without a club, has been linked with Ethiopian Premier League side Shagger City.

The proposed move would see the 36-year-old join a club competing in the Premier League, with Alemu’s position listed as goalkeeper. The link is dated 5 October 2026 and remains a rumour rather than a confirmed transfer.

Alemu has been without a club since leaving Diredawa Ketema on 1 July 2022. He joined Diredawa after spending the 2020-21 season with Hadia Hosaina, having previously played for Adama Ketema.

His recorded career also includes spells with Wolkite Ketema, Woldia SC and Dashen Beer. Alemu moved to Dashen Beer in July 2015, before beginning a sequence of transfers between Ethiopian clubs over the following seasons.

The goalkeeper’s most recent recorded club change was therefore his departure from Diredawa, rather than a move between two active sides. Shagger City are the club currently linked with him, although the details available do not establish that an agreement has been reached.

Alemu’s current status is unchanged: he is without a club, with no current contract recorded.
