Patrick Dorgu has been ruled out for the rest of Denmark’s current international window after suffering a muscle injury in the 2-0 win over Wales.
The Manchester United defender was forced off in the second round of the Nations League, with Mohammed Daramy coming on in the 30th minute.
Denmark manager Brian Riemer confirmed Dorgu would return home and miss the team’s next matches.
“Patrick Dorgu will return home and will not be ready for the upcoming matches,” Riemer told reporters. “Further examinations will show how long he will be out.”
The injury is the fourth suffered by a Denmark player during the current international break, leaving Riemer frustrated by the number of setbacks in the squad.
“I do not usually complain, but what I am dealing with is crazy,” he said. “I have never experienced this before. Four players have been injured in just one week.”
Alexander Bah has sustained a shoulder injury, while Kasper Dolberg has a knee problem. Albert Gronbaek was also injured in the match against Norway last Friday, before Dorgu became the latest player to be affected against Wales.
Dorgu had started the match but was unable to continue after picking up the muscle problem. The additional tests will determine the length of his absence.
Denmark took the lead against Wales through an own goal by Ben Davies, before Gustav Isaksen added a second to secure victory.
The result moved Denmark on to three points, leaving them third in the table behind Portugal and Norway.
