Lokeren’s Denis Odoi Eyes Move Abroad, Fancies Italian Switch
Lokeren’s standout defender Denis Odoi has expressed a desire to take the next step in his career, with a move abroad high on his agenda. The Belgian-Ghanaian fullback, currently enjoying a strong season in the Belgian Pro League, has openly shared his ambition to test himself in a more competitive environment, with Italy topping his list of preferred destinations.
Speaking candidly about his future, Odoi admitted the idea of playing overseas has long been a dream. “Continuing my career abroad is almost a fantasy,” he said. “But I think I could convince my girlfriend to go there.” Italy, in particular, holds a strong appeal for the 25-year-old. “If I could choose, I would choose Italy. That’s where I could showcase my skills. I could also learn a lot tactically.”
The appeal of Serie A’s tactical rigor and high-level competition is not lost on Odoi. He cites close friends and compatriots Dries Mertens and Radja Nainggolan—both of whom have flourished in Italy—as major influences on his thinking. “Dries has already told me many positive things about Italy,” Odoi explained. “Radja too has spoken about the experience.”
Odoi’s versatility and consistent performances for Lokeren have not gone unnoticed. Comfortable at both right and left-back, his defensive discipline and ability to push forward have made him a key figure in the squad. As he enters what many consider the prime years of his career, the timing for a potential move seems right.
While no formal offers have been made public, Odoi’s public expression of interest could alert clubs in Italy and beyond. For now, he remains focused on finishing the season strongly with Lokeren—but the lure of Serie A could soon see him swapping Belgian pitches for Italian stadiums.
