On a night of high drama and passion, Los Angeles FC secured their place in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in unforgettable fashion.
With the clock ticking deep into extra time, it was Gabon star Denis Bouanga who stepped up, scoring a 115th-minute winner against Club América to send the Banc of California Stadium into raptures – and seal LAFC’s ticket to the global stage.
“It was a complete performance,” Bouanga said after the match. “Amazing for us, amazing for the whole stadium. We had this match to seal our place and in the end, we succeeded.”
For Bouanga, the chance to feature in the FIFA Club World Cup is more than just a reward—it’s a dream come true.
“It’s a huge opportunity. I wanted to be part of it because it’s not something everyone gets to do,” he explained.
“It’s perfect for LAFC – it will bring even more attention to the club. And for me, like I said, I wanted to take part.”
The magnitude of the tournament is not lost on the Gabon international, who recognizes how rare this opportunity is – both for the players and the club.
“It’s a major competition. We weren’t even supposed to be here. It’s perfect for the club, and personally, it’s fantastic too.
“For the team and everyone, I think it’s a huge moment. I think most of the players – and maybe even the club – won’t do this again in four years.
For me, it’s a magical moment.”
Bouanga also took time to acknowledge the unwavering support of the LAFC faithful, whose loyalty has been a driving force behind the team’s journey.
“They have followed us everywhere. They followed us to Philadelphia, so I believe they’ll follow us to Atlanta too – that won’t be a problem.
“Thanks to them, we’ve made it this far. I hope they’ll keep supporting us and that we’ll do everything we can to bring our fans with us wherever we go.
“I hope the club will do everything to bring as many fans as possible to Atlanta and everywhere we go.”
In Group D of the Club World Cup, LAFC will face formidable opposition in Chelsea, Espérance de Tunis, and Flamengo – three giants of the global game.
“They’re very good teams,” Bouanga admitted. “If they’re there, it’s not by accident. I think now we can say that we’re one of the best teams in the world, just by being part of this tournament.
“We’re eager to face them, and I hope we’ll have a few chances.”
From extra-time heroics to global dreams, Bouanga and LAFC now prepare for a historic challenge.
With belief, passion, and a loyal fanbase behind them, the journey to Atlanta promises to be one of the club’s defining chapters.
