Dejan Lovren supports Mohamed Salah with a direct jab at Jamie Carragher

Former Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has stepped in to support Mohamed Salah amid the wave of criticism the Egyptian star is facing, particularly from ex-Reds centre-back Jamie Carragher.

Salah’s tensions with Liverpool escalated after his comments following the 15th-round Premier League match against Leeds United, where he did not start for the third consecutive league game and remained unused for the second match in a row.

After that match, Salah said his relationship with Dutch coach Arne Slot “was good but there is no relationship now,” and hinted that some people at the club want him to leave, which led to his complete exclusion from the following Champions League clash against Inter Milan. He later returned as a substitute against Brighton, coming on in the first half due to Joe Gomez’s injury and providing the assist for Liverpool’s second goal.

Salah then posted a graphic of his new record as the player with the most goal contributions for a single club in Premier League history with 277 goals and assists, surpassing Wayne Rooney’s tally with Manchester United.

Lovren reshared the post on X and jokingly wrote: “Not good enough Mo, you have to cover your full-back,” mocking Carragher’s repeated complaints about Salah’s supposed decline in defensive work, before Salah joined Egypt for AFCON 2025 in Morocco.
