Zamalek’s build-up to their CAF Confederation Cup meeting with Kaizer Chiefs has been overshadowed by yet another setback, deepening the club’s ongoing financial turmoil.

The Cairo side opened their group campaign with a narrow 1–0 win over ZESCO United on Sunday, but the positive start was quickly eclipsed by news that defender Salah Eldin Mosaddak has moved to end his contract.

The Moroccan is reported to have served the club with formal notice, citing several months of unpaid wages.

His departure adds to Zamalek’s mounting troubles. The club is already serving a FIFA-imposed transfer ban for failing to settle debts owed to three former players.

They cannot register new signings until those cases are resolved.

According to vice president Hesham Nasr, the financial strain is proving far worse than initially understood.

“We discovered the debts were two and a half times larger than we imagined, and the problem is the interest keeps growing,” he told MBC Masr. “We are still dealing with that.”

Zamalek travel to Polokwane next, where they meet Kaizer Chiefs at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
