Deco targets Nathan Ake as key Barcelona summer signing
Barcelona sporting director Deco has reportedly identified Manchester City defender Nathan Ake as one of the club’s main priorities for the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Dutch international is seen as a strong tactical fit for Hansi Flick’s approach, particularly his emphasis on building from the back and defending large spaces.
Ake’s contract with City runs until June 2027, but the Premier League champions are understood to be open to selling him at the end of the season. Having lost his place as a regular starter under Pep Guardiola, the 31-year-old could view a move to Camp Nou as a chance to revive his career and take on a more prominent role.
Despite not being the most physically imposing centre-back, Ake’s athleticism, mobility, and excellent reading of the game allow him to excel in one-on-one situations and when defending high up the pitch. His ability to operate across the entire backline, including at left-back and as a left-sided centre-back, makes him an especially attractive option for Barcelona as they reshape their defence for next season.
