Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, has confirmed that the club does not interfere in the personal issues of star attacker Lamine Yamal.

Speaking to Radio SER Catalunya, Deco explained that Yamal’s development has taken place under very different circumstances.

“Regarding the comparisons with Messi, I’d say that Leo developed without so much pressure and earned his place, while Lamine had to play for a Barcelona that was still under construction,” Deco said.

He added that the club remains focused strictly on football matters when it comes to the youngster.

“Personal issues? Every player is different. Yamal meets all the requirements we ask of him as a Barça player. We don’t get involved in personal issues.”

Deco also discussed speculation surrounding Messi and the possibility of a return to Barcelona, firmly dismissing the idea.

“His return? It was never a consideration. He has a contract, he will have a lifelong impact on Barcelona, but it’s not something we’re talking about,” he stated.

The sporting director acknowledged that fans naturally continue to reminisce about the club legend.

“It’s normal for his name to be invoked by fans; it’s impossible not to remember Messi’s goals and plays.”
