Dayot Upamecano seeks improved terms in Bayern Munich contract talks

Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has stressed the importance of defender Dayot Upamecano amid his contract extension talks with officials of the German giants.

The current deal of the defender who has roots in Guinea-Bissau with Bayern expires in the summer, and according to reports from SPORT BILD, negotiations are ongoing regarding a possible renewal.

The Bavarian club is reportedly hopeful that the 26-year-old will agree to a reduced salary as part of the new contract terms.

Speaking ahead of Bayern’s UEFA Champions League clash in Paris, Kompany made his stance clear, describing the centre-back as a key figure in his setup.

“I always see my players as a little better than everyone else. Dayot Upamecano is an absolutely important part of our team,” Kompany said.

However, the Belgian tactician acknowledged that the final decision on the defender’s future will not rest solely with him.

“We have very clearly defined roles in our club. It’s not just me who makes the decision,” he added.

Upamecano, who has been a consistent performer for the Bundesliga giants since joining from RB Leipzig, is reportedly weighing up a move abroad.

A final decision on his future is expected in the coming weeks.
