Dayot Upamecano is pushing for a salary increase before committing to a contract extension with Bayern Munich, as discussions begin over his long-term future in Bavaria.

The French international, who joined the Bundesliga giants from RB Leipzig in 2021, remains under contract until 2026.

While he has expressed a desire to continue his career at the Allianz Arena, the 25-year-old centre-back is reportedly seeking a wage that better reflects his contributions to the team and his evolution as a key figure in the squad.

Upamecano believes he has matured significantly since his arrival in Munich and now considers himself a regular starter and an essential part of the club’s defensive framework.

As a result, he is unwilling to extend his stay under the terms of his current deal without a revision in his salary.

Happy at Bayern Munich, Dayo Upamecano wants to extend his stay in Bavaria. However, he would like a salary that reflects his current status before extending his contract, a source close to the player revealed.

Since joining Bayern, Upamecano has featured prominently in the heart of defence, earning praise for his physicality, composure, and tactical awareness.

His performances have helped the club maintain domestic dominance and contend in Europe, further cementing his value within the squad.

Negotiations between the player’s representatives and the Bayern hierarchy are said to be ongoing, but no agreement has been reached as yet.

While the club remains open to an extension, both sides are understood to be some distance apart regarding financial terms.

The defender’s current deal still has two years remaining, meaning Bayern are under no immediate pressure to rush a decision.

Nevertheless, with key players across Europe regularly being tied down to new long-term deals, Upamecano’s stance is viewed as a strategic move to secure improved terms well in advance of the contract’s expiry.

Before agreeing to an extension, Dayo Upamecano is demanding a salary increase. He wants compensation commensurate with his status as a starter in his position, the report added.

As Bayern Munich reshape under new management and aim for continued success both domestically and on the European stage, resolving Upamecano’s future will be among the key priorities in the months ahead.

For now, negotiations continue behind the scenes, with the outcome still uncertain.
