Dayot Upamecano returns early to Bayern Munich
Dayot Upamecano has left the France squad early and returned to Bayern Munich after being suspended for Les Bleus’ remaining international fixture.
The centre-back received a second yellow card late in France’s match against Italy, making him unavailable for Monday’s game against Belgium.
With no role for him in the final match of the break, the French Football Federation released Upamecano on Saturday morning. The 27-year-old will now rejoin Bayern at Säbener Straße sooner than expected and begin preparations for the club’s upcoming schedule.
His dismissal followed a difficult ending against Italy, but Bayern will welcome the additional time with their defender. An early return allows Upamecano to recover from international exertions, resume club training and focus fully on domestic and European commitments.
Serge Gnabry is also due back in Munich ahead of schedule, with Bayern managing his workload during the international window. Jamal Musiala’s departure from the Germany camp, however, came in more concerning circumstances after he suffered a thigh muscle-fibre tear.
Upamecano has made four appearances for Bayern this season and remains a key option in the centre of defence. His France suspension will not affect his club availability, leaving him in line to feature once Bayern resume competitive action.
