Dayot Upamecano keen on improving amid ‘best defender’ tag
France defender of Guinean descent, Dayot Upamecano, has stressed his desire to continue improving amid the tag as the ‘best defender’ in the world.
The 27-year-old has been in impressive form for Bayern Munich, securing a consistent starting role and showing further progress under Vincent Kompany.
His performances have drawn widespread praise, but Upamecano insists he has not reached his peak.
After Bayern’s 6-2 win over SC Freiburg on Saturday, he was asked whether he is now in the best form of his career.
“No. I can still give more!” he replied.
Bayern are keen to extend his contract, which expires in the summer of 2026, but they face serious competition.
Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are both monitoring the situation and are interested in signing him on a free transfer should he choose not to renew.
Upamecano, despite enjoying life in Munich, is said to be undecided about his Bayern Munich future. He is expected to decide on his future in the January window.
