Bayern Munich’s summer plans have hit another hurdle as centre-back Dayot Upamecano experienced groin discomfort during his rehabilitation training on Monday.
After being sidelined for two weeks, the 26-year-old returned to the Säbener Straße training grounds, aiming to build momentum following a cartilage operation on his left knee ten weeks ago. The session, led by rehab coach Simon Martinello, began on a positive note. Upamecano breezed through drills involving passing, sprinting, and dribbling, signs that suggested he was on the right track.
However, the optimism quickly faded when the defender clutched his right groin repeatedly, visibly troubled. According to Bild, the issue wasn’t severe enough to halt training immediately, but it has raised doubts about his readiness.
With preparations for the new season starting on 5 June and the Club World Cup approaching, coach Vincent Kompany is under pressure to have a full-strength squad. Upamecano hasn’t featured in a match since 23 March, and questions remain over whether he can regain match fitness in time.
