Dayot Upamecano explains Bayern Munich contract decision and praise for Vincent Kompany
Dayot Upamecano has shared why he chose to extend his stay at Bayern Munich after signing a new deal with the club running until the summer of 2030.
The French defender admitted the negotiations were challenging but ultimately felt convinced by the faith shown in him by everyone at the club.
“I felt the club’s trust in me. We have a great manager and a great team. I’m very happy here. I just want to give my all for the club and the fans and repay that trust,” Upamecano told Sky. He also reserved special praise for head coach Vincent Kompany, highlighting the strong relationship they have built.
“He is a very open coach and is always ready to talk. He does a good job and I am very happy with him. I can always go to him if I think something wasn’t right in training. I like that he is such an open coach,” the centre-back added.
For Upamecano, the new contract is not just security but a commitment to keep growing under Kompany and helping Bayern compete for major trophies in the years ahead.
