Dayot Upamecano seeks improved terms in Bayern Munich contract talks

Dayot Upamecano is moving closer to signing a new contract with Bayern Munich, despite serious interest from Real Madrid and other European giants.

The centre back’s current deal runs out at the end of the season, and his strong form has made him one of the Bundesliga’s standout defenders this campaign.

According to Bild, Bayern and Upamecano have already reached an initial understanding on salary, signing bonus and performance related bonuses, with the proposed extension running until 2028. The main sticking point is a release clause: Upamecano wants it to be active from the first year of the new deal, while Bayern prefer it to kick in only from the second season to secure short term stability.

Upamecano has played 11 Bundesliga games this season and scored one goal, underlining his importance at both ends of the pitch.

Real Madrid, who had been exploring a potential free transfer in the summer, remain attentive to the situation but are also working on alternative plans, with Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi identified as a leading option if a move for Upamecano does not materialise
