David Moreira: Gil Vicente sign Sporting CP B centre-back in permanent deal

Gil Vicente have completed the signing of centre-back David Moreira from Sporting CP B in a permanent transfer for an undisclosed fee. The 22-year-old defender joins the Primeira Liga side with an estimated market value of 1.7m.

Moreira, a left-footed central defender, moves to Barcelos from Sportings reserve team, who compete in Liga Portugal 2. The transfer was finalised on 7 July 2026, adding a young defensive option to Gil Vicentes squad ahead of the new Liga Portugal campaign.

Born in Lisbon on 18 April 2004, Moreira holds both Cape Verdean and Portuguese nationality. He stands at 1.71m and is listed primarily as a centre-back, offering Gil Vicente a profile built within one of Portugals most prominent academies.

The move ends a decade-long spell at Sporting, where Moreira progressed through every youth level. He first entered the clubs youth system in 2016 before stepping up to the under-15s, under-17s and under-19s, eventually reaching the under-23 side in 2022 and Sporting CP B in 2024.

Moreiras rise over the last two seasons has been reflected in his market valuation. While at Sporting CP B, his value increased from 800,000 in December 2025 to 1.7m by June 2026, underlining his development and growing status within the Portuguese game.

Having spent his entire career to date within the Sporting structure, his switch to Gil Vicente marks his first move away from the Lisbon club and his first permanent transfer into a Primeira Liga first-team environment.

Moreira will now continue his professional career with Gil Vicente in Portugals top flight.
