David Alaba hails defining Bayern years

David Alaba has described his Bayern Munich years as the spell that shaped him both as a footballer and a person, calling it “a defining period” in his life.

Reflecting on his time in Munich, Alaba said his spell at Bayern was crucial to his growth, noting that he “grew up there, experienced bitter defeats and celebrated many titles.”

The Austrian joined the club as a teenager and learned to handle early pressure as a young player suddenly thrust into the spotlight.

He stressed that Bayern will always mean a lot to him, even if he prefers not to dwell on the past. “Bayern Munich will always have a place in my heart. But I’m not someone who constantly lives in memories,” he explained.

Now 33, Alaba believes injuries and setbacks have changed his outlook on football and life. “You learn a lot through injuries – especially when it comes to dealing with setbacks,” he said, adding that a long career forces you to become more resilient as both a player and a person.

Asked about his core values, he highlighted “respect”, “love” for family and close circles, and “loyalty” as the principles that guide him on and off the pitch.
