David Alaba explains why he chose Udinese after Real Madrid
David Alaba has explained that Udinese coach Kosta Runjaic played a key role in convincing him to join the Italian club after leaving Real Madrid.
The Austria international said he spoke mainly with Runjaic before making his decision and was won over by the sporting project presented to him. “I spoke mainly with the coach. He convinced me about the project here, and I took the time I needed to make this decision. Over time, I became convinced that this was the right path for me because I believe it’s the right step for my career, both personally and professionally. That’s why I chose Udinese,” Alaba said.
Alaba has not played an official match for several months because of physical problems, but he believes he is ready to return after joining Udinese team training last week. “I feel great, I feel ready to play. I started training with the team last week and it’s been really good. We’ve worked hard and I’ve also trained a lot in recent weeks, so I can say that I’m doing well and I feel great,” he added.
The defender also confirmed that centre-back is now his preferred position, although he remains capable of playing elsewhere because of his versatility.
