Darlin Yongwa: Malaga eye free transfer for Cameroon left-back

Malaga CF are exploring a move for Cameroon defender Darlin Yongwa, who is currently without a club after leaving French side FC Lorient. The 25-year-old left-back, born in Douala, is being considered as a potential reinforcement as the Spanish club look to strengthen their options on the left side of defence ahead of the new La Liga campaign.

Yongwa became a free agent on 1 July 2026 following his departure from Lorient, a situation that would allow Malaga to negotiate a deal without a transfer fee. He is currently valued at around €5m, and securing him on a free is viewed as an opportunity to add top-flight experience at a reduced cost.

The defender spent the last four seasons in France’s top two divisions, making close to 60 appearances in Ligue 1 and featuring regularly in Ligue 2 before that. He was part of the Lorient squad that won the French second tier title in 2024-25, underlining his experience in a promotion-winning environment.

Yongwa first moved to Europe from Cameroonian side Brasseries in 2019, joining Niort’s reserve team before progressing to the senior side in Ligue 2. His performances there earned him a transfer to Lorient in 2022, where he continued his development in the French top flight.

Malaga’s interest comes as the defender assesses his options following the end of his contract in France, with the Cameroon international currently unattached and free to negotiate with clubs across Europe.
