Darlin Yongwa is enjoying an exceptional season with FC Lorient in Ligue 2, playing a key role in the club’s impressive campaign.
The 24-year-old Cameroonian defender has been instrumental in Lorient’s charge to the top of the table, with the team currently leading the league on 55 points after 27 matches.
His performances this season have far surpassed his previous displays.
Standout Performances
Yongwa has set himself apart with his attacking contributions and physicality. His statistics highlight his dominance on the pitch, having covered a record 4,075 meters with the ball—more than any other player in the league.
Additionally, he has completed 32 successful dribbles and averages 16 sprints per game, reinforcing his reputation as the best left-back in Ligue 2 this season.
A Career on the Rise
Following Lorient’s relegation from Ligue 1 last season, Yongwa has reached new heights in his development.
In France’s top flight, he made 22 appearances, scoring once and providing one assist.
His potential was evident earlier in his career at Niort, where he managed three assists during the 2020-2021 campaign.
This season, however, marks a significant breakthrough. In 26 appearances, he has already registered five assists and scored once, with seven matchdays still remaining for him to enhance his numbers.
Yongwa, who joined Lorient in 2022 for €2 million, remains under contract with the club until June 2026, and his continued rise signals a promising future ahead.
